History of Metajna

As well as bigger places beside coast, Metajna have a long history which begin into a time before Croats colonized this land. Into this oasis is Franciscan chapel build in a 15. century, and Benedictine monastery from 14. century. A person meritorious for up growth of tourism, which begin into Metajna in a year 1928, is Šime (Jerolim's) Lončarić (1887-1970).

The story tells us that the first houses or cottages on this site were built in the half of 18th century. It was a stone house, very simple, made of drystone walls. For the roof they are used reed and other grasses. Our grandfathers and other sources tells us that the first houses are situated in the near by spring water and under the cliff to protect from strong wind named “Bura”.
